Item Description
Circulated condition with red "PG" markings. The first letter, "P," designates that the note was issued for circulation in the Philippines. The second letter, "G," indicates a specific printing run. The Japanese initially used a single letter following the "P" for printing runs (PA, PB, PC, etc.). When they ran through the alphabet, they introduced fractional blocks with two letters underneath the "P" to indicate subsequent printings (P/AA, P/AB, etc.). Part of the Japanese Invasion Money (JIM) or Southern Development Bank Notes issued during World War II in the Philippines. This currency, replaced the local currency during the Japanese invasion, conquest and occupation of colonies and other countries in WWII. The first issue in 1942 included denominations of 1, 5, 10, and 50 centavos, along with 1, 5, and 10 Pesos. This is a historical WWII artifact from the Japanese occupation of the Philippines between 1942 and 1945!Categories:
